The Japanese art of origami, or paper-folding, has been in existence since the 17th century. Eva Szillery, founder of the Maine Origami Society and director of the Maine Mathematics Science and Engineering Talent Search, will add a new dimension to this art when she comes to the Opera House on Thursday, December 6, to teach "modular" origami....or unit origami, a paper-folding technique that uses multiple sheets of paper to create larger and more complex structures. Eva plans to teach her students how to create items that could easily be given as gifts or used to decorate for the holidays. The first class, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., is for adults and the second, beginning at 3:00 p.m., is for preteens and teens - ages 10 and up. No previous origami experience is necessary.
