Friends of the Library Used Bookstore
Used books can be dropped off at the Used Bookstore (not the Library please) any time we are open. Now accepting donations!
Because of space limitations the Friends of the Library have made the following changes to their policy for accepting used books. Please be considerate and follow this policy when considering material for the store:
Space constraints force the Friends of the Library to request that donations include only gently used books, DVDs, CDs, and that all items be in saleable condition. The Book Store cannot store, display or sell old textbooks, dictionaries or torn, soiled or musty books, all of which need to go to the dump. Pre-2005 travel guides, atlases or textbooks are also too space consuming and no one has purchased an encyclopedia in years. With a heavy heart these must also be consigned to the dump.
If you have a collection you feel is worthwhile, please check the internet for these organizations: "SellUsedBooks.com", "Cash4Books.net"and "UsedBookSell.com" as well as "DowntownDonations.com", all of which purport to accept, even collect used books. In the meantime, come to the Book Store and buy! buy! buy! and free up space for more donations to come
Thank you for your generosity and cooperation!
The Friends of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library
The Friend's Bookstore is open almost year-round to the great joy of booklovers near and far. In addition to great book bargains in every topic area imaginable, browsers can enjoy hundreds of paperbacks, including a large and frequently replenished selection of mysteries for 50 cents each.
The Bookstore is located right behind the Library in the Hyde House. Open hours increase and decrease as the seasons change. Early in the season, it is open Fridays and Saturdays. During July and August, the bookstore is usually open 7 days a week. The bookstore has no phone, so call the library for hours.
Donations of books are always welcomed. If a donor in the region is unable to bring books to the Library, call 633-3112 x204 and arrangements will be made to pick up gift books.
The bookstore is run entirely by volunteers, and help is always welcomed!
Funds generated by the Friend's Bookstore provide the Library with revenue to purchase new books as well as to fund special programs. Almost 20% of the budget of the BHML is funded by proceeds from the bookstore.
Nobody in the Boothbay Region ever needs to suffer from insomnia as the World Famous Porch Books are available 24 hours a day for 25 cents each.
A slot in the bookstore door is provided for payment.
